Ombre Hair | How we do it | Blondhaus Toronto
What is Ombre?
Ombre (from the French ombré - "shaded") is a technique that involves gradual transition of color from dark roots to light ends. The transition between shades can be both soft and contrasting, for a brighter effect. The result is a visible line between shades, and a bright contrast for a more distinctive effect.
Ombre vs Balayage
Balayage ("to smear" in French) is applied with a brush to the top layers of hair and individual strands, creating the illusion of sun-kissed hair, while ombré is a more defined and dense color application with zoning and graduation.
Also, balayage typically lasts longer. It lasts up to 6 months with minor touch-ups after 2-3 months. Ombré lasts less - up to 4 months with correction after 2 months.
Sombre
Sombre is essentially a soft ombre. This means that the technique is even more subtle than usual ombre with less tone difference. Sombre lasts about 4-6 months with touch-ups after 2-3 months.
